What Is Glutathione?

Glutathione is a tripeptide made inside the body from cysteine, glutamate, and glycine.

A cellular antioxidant

Glutathione can donate reducing power to help neutralize reactive oxygen species. Enzymes then help recycle oxidized glutathione back into its active form.

  • Supports antioxidant defenses
  • Participates in normal detoxification reactions
  • Helps maintain proteins in their functional state

Why levels vary

Glutathione status can be influenced by age, nutrition, illness, environmental exposures, physical stress, and the body’s demand for repair. A laboratory result should always be interpreted in context by a health professional.

What glutathione is not

Glutathione is not a cure-all. Claims that it prevents or treats specific diseases require strong clinical evidence and should not replace medical care.
